In a direct parallel with Free Desktop Tool's ideology, that there is such a thing as a free lunch, you can find many great tools on the web for free. One of those such tools is HouseCall by Trend Micro. It is a web based virus scanner.
When you visit the HouseCall webpage, you will be prompted to download a small browser plug-in. This plug-in will be used to scan your system's memory and hard drives for viruses.
Because the HouseCall program does not reside on your computer, it always has the latest virus definitions.
HouseCall not only scans your computer for nasty viruses, it can also remove those viruses or blocks of code within the files (potentially repairing those files).
