Spybot S&D is not as easy to use as Adaware SE Personal, however it does include many features that the free Personal version of Adaware does not. Though, they may not be straight forward to use or understand.
Among these extra features is quick access to commonly targeted areas of your computer such as your windows hosts file and even modify it so that your computer will not communicate or connect to spyware servers. Additionally, you can evaluate and alter the list of programs that start up automatically whenever windows boots. Another nice feature that is included is a pop-up blocker that intelligently prevents unwanted windows from being raised and distracting you from your work.
Spybot Search & Destroy is donationware, meaning that you get the full version for free, but should your conscience trouble you for getting something for free you can always donate money to the authors.
